...Rising Concern - Going Green??...

Today khutbah was really concerned about the rising price of oil in the worldwide market. We are lucky as Bruneian that the government still maintain the oil pricing to be subsidies. But since the rising price of oil in the worldwide market, the amount of vehicle from our neighboring country visiting Brunei is also on the rise. This is because the price for Bruneian oil is the lowest in South East Asia. But it is so ironic that these visitor is entering Brunei frequently only for oil and Bruneian visiting their country to buy cheaper market products and services. Do you get the picture on where I am heading with this post?

To make it simple so that you would not get confuse. Malaysian from Limbang and Miri went to Brunei for oil while our Bruneian went to Limbang and Miri to buy cheap groceries and products. But Bruneian had been going to Limbang and Miri since a very long time ago just to shop and leisure. In other words, Bruneian products is very expensive even before the rise of oil prices. So this is not a new thing for us as Bruneian. 

Before the new pricing was imposed to non-Bruneian registered vehicle; there were several fail attempts to smuggle the oil outside of Brunei. And the rise of these frequent aliens vehicle visiting Brunei just for gas was another factor. Luckily, Brunei Shell Marketing was aware of this situation and had imposed the new pricing for the non-Bruneian registered vehicle. That is why, in some petrol station, we saw another lane just for these non-Bruneian vehicle.

The only thing that is really a concern to me about the rising price is there will be hunger and starvation. Outside of Brunei, there are some country that are already poor will suffer the most. Medicine and food will be expensive and there will be hunger and poverty everywhere.

The only thing that I do not get it about the khutbah is about the use of biofuel. I felt that biofuel is a new way to conserve our use of oil and gas. Oil and gas had cause pollution to this planet and we need to find new source of energy for our car and electricity if we want to preserve our already sick planet. Whether I heard the Imam sermon correctly or not, but I do heard that he enlisted biofuel in a list of source of problem include the scarce of agriculture farm. I do not question about the Imam or the writer of the sermon intention but people could get confused about the meaning of biofuel. It is not a bad thing and it should be implemented in Brunei in the near future. The planet is dying because we suck all the fossils and energy just for our own convenience. So please save the planet! Do not waste energy and recycle!!
